We purchased our tickets…

Looks like Mariesie and I are going to New York City for a week in mid-August to hunt for an apartment. We also hope to get some interviews for jobs while we are out there. We will have one week to get a line on jobs and get an apartment. It’s not a lot of time, so we’ll have to be well prepared ahead of time.

We purchased our flight to NYC from JetBlue. The airfare was reasonably cheap. The plan is to stay in a hostel while we are in NYC. I’ve been looking at JazzHostels as a possible place to stay. We want to save as much of our cash for actually moving out there as possible. I’m hoping that the hostels in New York don’t suck, as I’ve never been. I’ll let everybody know how the discount airline and the hostel stays went in future posts. It will be an adventure, thats for sure.

For the most part I believe we’ll be looking for apartments somewhere in Brooklyn or Long Island City. I am looking forward to exploring a couple of neighborhoods while we are out there in August. Access to public transportation will be an important factor in our decision. Most bang for the buck is also a high priority. We are considering paying a fee for some listings of apartments. We’ve looked at ads in the Village Voice that appear reasonable so we’ll see about that in the next couple weeks as well.

For my own job hunt I’m hoping to set up an interview or 2 with some IT consulting recruiters or headhunters. If I can schedule an interview with a direct company or non-profit as well that would be extra awesome. At this point from some of the research I’ve done I’m fairly confident in my ability to find a job. Work has been really slow in Milwaukee the past few summers, so I’ll be looking forward to the extended gig options that will come with NYC.

We will keep you updated as the plot thickens….

Hello, I’ve been reading your blogs.

I hope you make it to your destination. I’ve lived in Clewstion , Florida for most of my life and have always wanted to live in NYC/NY. Unfortunately, I’ve recently graduated High School and work as a dispatcher in my county. I don’t have any college experience, because the only college here, is a small community college. I have been severely depressed because of the place I’ve lived.

I work 80+ hours and sleep. The town is a population of 15,000; and the only place here is Wal*Mart. My mentality is nothing relative to the southern behavior that’s plentiful in this little town.

I have little money, Adobe photoshop/illustrator experience and a Jeep. Sometimes, I want to go there on the spurr of the moment, and try and manage what I can; but I am too afraid and lack the knowledge to do so.

I hope you two succeed, and find what you’re aiming for. I hope you live prosperously. :)

    Ganbatta ne! :)

    good luck!
